Welcome to the SDS interview page. This is for all members to tell us about yourself, your favourite Spurs moments and a chance to pick your all time Spurs Football Fantasy XI.
This week, we interview our man from The New Forest – Ian Kent
The Warm Up
My 1st opportunity to support a team came about from joining a mini league of the world renowned game of …Subbuteo! This is 1963 ish, everyone was supporting Liverpool and Manchester United, I would never follow the crowds and the mighty Spurs were soooo stylish, and my choice was made.
My 1st live game was at The Dell, Southampton in 1967, but in those days match of the day was my way of keeping up to date with the mighty Spurs. I have always tried to visit the lane twice a year once I had money to spare and a car to drive, I brainwashed my kids from an early age and was so proud when I could take them to the lane to sample the experience, they were hooked and I was so proud.
My 2nd family experience involved inadvertently carving up a fellow driver on the A10, the driver went mental, pulled out a pistol and pointed it at us, we were gone faster than the bullet i envisaged coming towards us, I got lost, turning up at the stadium 1/2 hr late and guess what? I can’t remember the result (this was about 1992 against Liverpool).
Now my 2 oldest kids Vicky and Dan are spurs members and I even have a grandson Rylee just as fanatical, they even came on SDS coach last month. I’m so proud.
1. As a youngster, who was your Spurs hero?
My hero from days gone by was Jimmy Greaves, was gutted when he got injured in 1966 and failed to get in the World Cup winning team.
2. Who is your favorite player from the current Squad?
My favourite current player is obviously Harry Kane, but Christian Eriksen is a very close runner up.
3. From World football, who would you most like to see in a Spurs shirt?
From world football the player I’d like to see in the whites of Spurs is Gianluigi Buffon, stylish, loyal, dependable and a winner. Still, we haven’t done bad in that position over the years.
4. What is your favorite piece of Spurs memorabilia?
Favorite piece of memorabilia, not really got any, probably pin badges I’ve kept from my membership packs over the years.
5. Where in the world have you watched Spurs live other than UK?
I Remember having an all inclusive holiday in Majorca a few years ago, it was pre-season time, Spurs were in a tournament involving Celtic, Newcastle and I can’t remember the 4th team. A few of us decided to go down to the local Irish bar in town to watch the game against Celtic, I forgot to take my wallet, cos, being an all inclusive holiday I never needed to pay for a drink in the complex, everyone subbed me for drinks during the match, then we decided to stay for the 2nd match, I turned up about 5 hrs later back at the complex absolutely bladdered, and my wife Elaine was not too pleased, I was getting drinks for the rest of the holiday for those nice guys that subbed me during that eventful afternoon, (which was easy cos it was all inclusive), football always brings people together.
6. Which former player would you love to see in the current squad?
I think Glenn Hoddle would quite enjoy playing in this team, Harry Kane might’ve scored even more goals.
7. Most memorable Spurs moment?Â
My favourite moment was being in the Paxton Road end when we tonked  ARSEnal in the cup a few years ago, there was congas going through the seats, the stewards were going mad.
My worst moment, being on the SDS coach when we broke down on Boxing Day, I forfeited alcohol on Xmas day cos of the early start in the morning,  I stayed with the coach because my son and family were coming round for tea and I couldn’t be late back,
Harry Kane broke the record that day, we scored 5 goals and I had to listen to it on the coach going back at about 30 mph, the worst part, my son didn’t arrive and I got told off for spending too much on coffee at Fleet, Elaine checked the bank statement
8. Who was your most disappointing Spurs signing?
Most disappointing player was probably Sergei Rebrov, so much was expected of him without delivering.
9. Which Spurs players (3) would you chose to join you if you were on ‘Come Dine With Me?
The dining table guests would be Jimmy Greaves, Steve Perryman and Harry Kane, no guesses for what the conversation would be.
10. Who would be in you all time Spurs XI (4,4,2 formation)?
Gk: Pat Jennings
Defense: Cyril Knowles, Ledley King,Dave Mackay, Gareth Bale.
Midfield: Christian Eriksen, Glenn Hoddle, Moussa Dembele, Gazza,
Strikers: Harry Kane (might have to play a bit deeper behind)Jimmy Greaves.
