The Interviews – Martin Singer

Welcome to the SDS interview page. This is for all members to tell us about yourself, your favourite Spurs moments and a chance to pick your all time Spurs Football Fantasy XI.

This week, we interview our man from Bridport -  Mr Martin Singer.

1. As a youngster, who was your Spurs hero?

I’ve been around a long time, started watching the mighty Spurs in the Greaves era and my favourite player in the late sixties was Frank Saul. I don’t think he ever got the credit he deserved but scored lots of important goals including one in the 1967 Cup Final

2. Who is your favourite player from the current Squad?

It has to be Harry. I don’t know anyone who thought he could turn into a superstar when he scored his first goal for us but through sheer determination he became the player he is now. What an inspiration.

3. From World football, who would you most like to see in a Spurs shirt?

I’d love to see what Poch could do with Mario Gotze. Potential gone to waste.

4. What is your favourite piece of Spurs memorabilia?

The programme of Spurs v Blackburn Rovers the year they won the Premier League. The first match I took my son to. We won 3-1

5. Where in the world have you watched Spurs live other than UK?

Unfortunately this was on TV but we were on holiday in Cambodia when Spurs played West Ham. When the goalkeeper parried Defoe’s initial shot in his direction I shouted “goal”. People turned to look at me and missed the ripple of the net. What a player.

6. Which former player would you love to see in the current squad?

Jurgen Klinsman. He always played for the team and encouraged everyone else to do their best.

7. Most memorable Spurs moment?

Wembley 1981. I had a Standing Season Ticket on the Shelf, the best view in the ground and so I was entitled to a Cup Final ticket. A group of us were together behind the goal for the ‘Still Ricky Villa’ moment.

8. Who was your most disappointing Spurs signing?

Darren Bent, not as good as Sandra!

9. Which Spurs players (3) would you chose to join you if you were on ‘Come Dine With Me?

Gazza, Jimmy Greaves and Glen Hoddle.

10. Who would be in you all time Spurs XI (4,4,2 formation)?

Lloris, Aurier, Sanchez, Vertongen, Davies, Alli, Dier, Dembele, Eriksen, Son and Kane. Looks familiar, this is our best team ever and we have a great bench to give support.
